The Best Padrón Cigars of 2022: A Complete Guide for New Users

Some archeological anthropologists believe the ritual of smoking tobacco goes as far back as the Stone Age, around 10,000 BC. Originally smoked for medicinal reasons, the practice became a leisure activity over time.

Today, there's a long list of cigar brands vying for a slice of the market. Padrón cigars, founded by José Orlando Padrón, make the top of the list. These Nicaraguan cigars are some of the most premium and prestigious available.

In this article, you'll learn about the best Padrón cigars. Let's dive in.

Padrón Anniversary Series 1964

The Aniversario line is a massive hit with cigar enthusiasts. Padrón released the line in 1994 to commemorate the company's 30th anniversary.

To this day, it remains one of the most popular cigar lines. Experts continue to rank it as one of the top lines year after year.

The line features 16 different sizes, all available in natural and Maduro wrappers and crafted from tobacco aged four years. You'll enjoy cedar with a deep earthy aroma. The cigars begin tasting floral fruity but transition to the smooth bitterness of cocoa or espresso.

Some favorites from the collection include:

  • Padron Diplomatico (50 x 7)
  • Exclusive (50 x 5 1/2)
  • Hermoso (56 x 4)
  • Imperial (54 x6)
  • Torpedo (52 x 6)

The Torpedo was named the 2021 Cigar Aficionado Cigar of the Year.

Padrón Family Reserve No. 96

The Padrón Family Reserve No. 96 is one of the most anticipated new cigar releases of 2022. The line celebrates what would've been the 96th birthday of José Padrón.

Only retailers who attended the 2022 PCA Convention and Trade Show earlier this month in Las Vegas had the option to purchase this cigar. Thus, the production numbers for the release are still being finalized.

No. 96 is a 5 3/4 x 52 robust extra, available in both natural and Maduro wrappers. It will use the same tobacco blend as other cigars in the Family Reserve line. It comes in a 10-count box costing $295—a single cigar costs around $30.

Those familiar with smoking Padrón cigars will notice the No. 96 release is similar to last year's No. 95 release. Expect No. 96 to be available this fall.

Padrón 1926 Serie

The company launched the Padrón 1926 Series in 2002 to celebrate the 75th birthday of José Padrón. There are ten sizes available, and they come in a box-pressed format.

These cigars are crafted from tobacco aged five years. You'll experience rich impressions of coffee and chocolate-covered raisins, followed by a caramel-like finish.

The Padrón 1926 Series 40th Anniversary natural was the first ever Cigar of the Year by Cigar Aficionado in 2004, making it unique amongst the line.

Favorites from this series also include Padrón 80 years and Padrón 1926 Series No. 90, which commemorate Padrón's 80th and 90th birthdays.
