News From PCA 2022: New Cigar Releases From Some of the Top 25 Cigar Aficionados

Posted by Ana Cuenca on Jul 21, 2022

The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) 2022 Convention and International Trade Show is one of the most popular events of the year for the cigar industry and cigar lovers. Each year, the biggest names in the business including the top 25 cigar manufacturers showcase their best products and debut their newest cigars.

Since this event is for Retailers and Cigar Manufactures you were not able to attend this year's PCA convention and trade show. We know you are curious to learn about the newest products that were featured and released. Keep reading to learn about the exciting new releases from some of the best cigar producers including Plasencia Cigars, E.P. Carrillo, Foundation Cigar Co., and Rocky Patel.

Plasencia Cigars Added Eduardo to the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Cigar Line

Placencia is famous for its naturally hand-crafted Nicaragua cigars. And now, the Placencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro line has a new cigar called Eduardo. The new Placencia Alma Fuerte Colorado cigar honors Eduardo Placencia, one of the founding family members of the Placencia tobacco farms in the Canary Islands.

Eduardo comes in a new brand new size, not before offered in the Colorado Claro Wrapper line. The new cigar is 5 1/4 inches by 54 ring gauge and comes in a toro gordo shape.

Placencia's Eduardo will continue to feature the lighter wrapper found among all Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro cigars grown in the Nicaraguan Jalapa region. The wrapper has been aged for ten years. So, it provides exceptional additional flavor and fineness to the Placencia cigars.

The cigar's strength is medium to full. Customers can learn more and order their own box of Plasencia Alma Fuerte Eduardo Colorado Claro here.

E.P. Carrillo Pledge Has a Skinner Size Called The Lonsdale Limitata

The newest E.P. Carrillo Pledge cigar was featured at this year's PCA trade show and is all the range in the cigar world right now. E.P. Carrillo is famous for its multiple "Cigar of the Year" awards as well as continuously placing among the top best cigars every year. The founder of E.P. Carrillo is Ernesto Perez-Carrillo who has been nicknamed the "most winningness man in the tobacco industry." And for good reason.

E.P. Carrillo cigars are among the best Nicaraguan cigars. This year, the Pledge line has a new limited-edition cigar with a fresh size.

The new cigar has a skinnier size based on customer and retailer feedback. In surveys, clients noted they would like to have a cigar with a smaller ring gauge but the same great flavor. To answer customers' desires, E.P. Carrillo created the Lonsdale Limitata.

The Lonsdale Limitada is 6 1/2 inches by 43 ring gauge, skinnier than the other Pledge cigars. To ensure the cigar has a bold flavor, the box is pressed smoked and the cigars are wrapped with a Habano-seed wrapper with a Nicaraguan filler.

Only 1,500 boxes of 20 cigars have been released so far. However, you can watch out to see if and when E.P. Carrillo produces more by signing up for notifications here.

The New Olmec Line by Foundation Cigar Co.

Foundation Cigar Co. debuted its newest cigar line called Olmec at the 2022 PCA trade show. The new cigar line and name are a tribute to the indigenous ancient Mesoamerican peoples who once lived in the San Andres Valley of Veracruz.

The new line features handmade cigars crafted in Nicaraguan and will have Nicaraguan fillers aged for three years as well as Nicaraguan binders. The Mexican ties come from the wrappers. Foundation Cigar Co. uses Mexican San Andres wrappers that come in both claro (for a lighter smoke) and maduro (for a bolder flavor) versions.

The Olmec line from Foundation Cigar Co. comes in a variety of sizes, and all boxes have 12 cigars.

The Olmec Corona Gorda has the skinniest ring gauge and is sized 5 1/2 inches b 48. The Olmec Robusto is 5 inches by 50. The Olmec Toro is 6 inches by 52 ring gauge.

The Olmec Grande is 6 inches by a 60 ring gauge. Finally, the largest Olmec cigar is the Olmec Double Corona, which comes in 7 inches and 52 ring gauge.

The Twentieth Anniversary Natural by Rocky Patel

Rocky Patel is another Top 25 Aficionado company each year. This year the company celebrated its 20th anniversary with a brand new cigar, featured at the PCA 2022.

The 20th-anniversary cigar is called The Edge. It took four years to develop and combines fillers from Esteli, Jalapa, Nicaragua, Jamastran, and Honduras to produce the unique Rocky Patel Decade flavor. The cigar is wrapped in a Honduran wrapper and box-pressed.

The new cigar from Rocky Patel comes in a variety of sizes. The Lancero is 7 1/2 inches by 38 ring gauge. The Rothschild comes in 4 1/2 inches by 50 ring guage. The Robusto Grande is 5 inches by 54 ring gauge. The Toro is 6 inches with a 52 ring gauge. Lastly, the Sixty is 6 inches by 60 ring gauge (hence the name!).

The Edge by Rocky Patel was ranked #14 on this year's Top 25 Cigars list. So, it's definitely worth trying!
