Cigars Reviews and Ratings: Rocky Patel Cigars

Posted by Ana Cuenca on Mar 16, 2017

Rocky Patel has always been in the top one seller from his beginning over 20th years ago. He had a rough start and coming to a traditional industry that was almost entirely a monopoly of Cuban born or inheriting, was not easy. But at some point he earned the blessing of them all. Even some that said he was just a great marketer realized Rocky Patel has much to offer and embrace him as one of them all.

The list of Top 25 by any of the prestigious Cigar Magazines Namely Cigar Aficionado's, Cigar Journal and Cigar Smoke that Rocky has is probably the one that has the most amazing numbers.

Just to name a few:

More recently one of his cigars was awarded Number 2 of 2016. This is a new version of a cigar he launched over a decade: Rocky Patel Sun Grown. This blend has become a top sell for many years and then Rocky has decided to create a new version in Maduro. And guess what… this is it! He nailed it.

The older version was made in Honduras and this time, Rocky Patel moved the production of the Rocky Patel Sun Grown Maduro to Nicaragua soil, The new Nicaraguan Patel’s TaviCusa factory is responsible for the latest beauty of the Rocky imperium. The cigar is wrapped using a Connecticut broadleaf and Rocky’s new interpretation was Rocky Patel Sun Grown Maduro. As a good Nicaraguan cigar this is a full-bodied smoke, and become an statement of the quality of the Nicaraguan tobaccos these days.

Even though the first version was a dark Sungrown, this new release is to our surprise darker, stronger and delivers a more complex flavor profile. Being a box pressed format, the cigar has a much attractive appearance. The broadleaf wrapper, which has make the hall of fame for some cigar manufactures and become a wrapper of choice of many cigar aficionados did it again. Slight changes in packaging like the label and even the box give to the new sun grown maduro a new identity and a higher place in the hierarchy of top notch cigar aficionados.
